It was years after I started to value trekking as part of travelling, when I finally visited Nepal, home for 8 of the 10 highest mountains on Earth, along with the highest of them all, Sagarmatha or Mt Everest. It was a long wait. Namaste!
Nepal brought me face to face with thousands of steps and my stubborn self, a heavy backpack pulling me down and my feet dragging me closer and closer to the desired destination of Annapurna Base Camp at 4130 metres.
When I finally stood at the foot of Annapurna and ended my solitary pilgrimage by hoisting the prayer flags, I waited until everybody left the sunrise scene for breakfast and stared at the majestic 7-8 thousand summits in complete silence.
Nepal soothes your soul and the mountains take your breath away. Literally. Something tells me I’ll go back one day.
